HONEYWELL
INTRODUCES TWO-AXIS DIGITAL COMPASS
Compass Provides Heading
Data for Next-Generation Telephones, Vehicle
Systems |
| |
| MINNEAPOLIS,
July 9, 2003 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today
introduced a two-axis, chip-scale digital
compass for use in products including wireless
telephones and vehicle electronic systems
with global positioning systems. |
| |
| "The
ease of use and small size of Honeywell's
two-axis compass offers product designers
a low-cost component that fits the space requirements
of consumer electronics, vehicle compassing
and antenna positioning systems," said
Tamara Bratland, Honeywell magnetics product
line manager. |
| |
| The
component combines sensing elements with a
microprocessor and compassing algorithms in
a 6.5 millimeter square, leadless chip package.
It requires only four connections for a complete
power and digital interface. Control and compass
heading data are performed via an I2C serial
digital protocol. |
| |
| The
digital compass is compatible with battery
power in a supply range of 2.7 to 5.0 volts. |
| |
| Honeywell
also produces a fully integrated sensor --
the HMC6052 -- for use in compasses. It provides
low-cost consumer electronics manufacturers
all essential electronics in a single component
for determining location information. In addition,
Honeywell produces a three-axis, chip-based
digital compass. |
| |
| Honeywell's
family of magnetic sensor-based digital and
analog products is offered in varying sizes,
with high sensitivity for electronic compassing,
magnetometry and telematics. Uses of the sensors
include navigation and altitude systems, traffic
detection systems for monitoring volume, directional
guidance for vehicles and consumer electronics
products. |
