HONEYWELL INTRODUCES SMART PRECISION PRESSURE TRANSDUCER FEATURING ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE IMMUNITY

MINNEAPOLIS, OCT. 5, 1998-Honeywell today introduced a new model of the smart Precision Pressure Transducer (PPT) which offers an improved level of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI). The new model features a metal military-style bayonet connector and a filter/voltage suppression circuit. These enhancements provide a significant benefit for avionics instruments, flight testing, and other applications concerned with susceptibility to EMI.

The PPT features 0.05 percent of full scale typical accuracy including temperature effects from -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 85 degrees Centigrade). Integral digital signal compensation greatly simplifies the task for the designer requiring high accuracy over temperature. Gauge, absolute, differential and vacuum ranges cover full scales between 0 to 1 psi and 0 to 500 psi (0 to .07 bar and 0 to 34 bar). Compound ranges cover full scales between -1 to 1 psi and -500 to 500 psi (-.07 to .07 bar and -34 to 34 bar).

The PPT uses the industry-leading silicon sensor technology developed for Honeywell's industrial and avionics control systems, offering unmatched reliability and stability.

All PPT models have both analog and serial digital outputs (RS232 or RS485), and the 0 to 5 volt output allows the transducer to easily retrofit to analog systems. The serial output allows the user to network up to 89 units on a single bus, interface directly to a PC or other data acquisition system, and address and customize individual units. Customization can be implemented using a simple set of commands from any PC with a factory-supplied cable connecting the PPT to the PC communications port.

User-selectable parameters include update rate, deadband, analog voltage range and pressure measurement units. The smart PPT can automatically increase its update rate if a rapid change of pressure is sensed, and it will set flags for out-of-range pressure or temperature conditions. Straight or right angle barbed fittings or threaded Swagelokä fittings are available for pressure connections.

The new PPT and the complete family of precision pressure transducers are manufactured at Honeywell's Solid State Electronics Center which is ISO9001 Certified. The PPT complies with CE Standards EN50081-1-1992 and EN50082-1-1992, Electromagnetic Compatibility - Generic Emissions and Immunity Standards, Part 1: Residential, Commercial and Light Industrial; and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 89/336/EEC as amended by 92/31 EEC and 93/68/EEC.

Honeywell is the world's leading provider of control technologies for buildings, homes, industry, space and aviation. The company employs 57,000 people in 95 countries, and had 1998 sales of $8.4 billion.
