HONEYWELL PRECISION BAROMETER OFFERS OUTSTANDING VALUE FOR ACCURACY OVER WIDE TEMPERATURE RANGE

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, JANUARY 17, 2001 - The Honeywell Precision Barometer (HPB) is introduced today as an outstanding value to instrument builders that require accurate and stable barometric measurements in real-world conditions. Designed with an extremely rugged, construction, the HPB can operate in severe humid, vibration, thermal and mechanical shock environments. Its small size, low weight (5 ounces, 142 gms) and software versatility allows easy retrofit or design into many new applications.

The HPB has a pressure range of 500 to 1200hPa with an accuracy of ± 0.4 hPa maximum over a wide temperature range of 40 to 85°C. Using TTL digital output, it communicates at user-configurable update rates and baud rates as fast as 120 updates/sec and 28.8k, respectively.

For applications demanding low power, such as remote meteorological stations and ocean data buoys, the HPB contains a power control feature that allows minimal power consumption between data logging. The HPB software has multiple user-selectable features such as baud rate/parity settings, continuous broadcast, ASCII or binary output, temperature output, deadband/sensitivity, update rates, pressure units, and many other features that support a wide range of applications.

Another variation of Honeywell's Pressure Barometer intended for altimeter applications is the HPA. It provides the same exceptional value as the HPB with a pressure range of 0 to 17.6psia, and an accuracy of
± 0.03% FS maximum over 40 to 85°C.

Typical applications for the HPB and HPA include general meteorology, data buoys, altimeters, airborne measurements and airports.
To accommodate computer interface applications, the HPB and HPA can both be supplied with a TTL-to-RS232 converter.

Honeywell is the world's leading provider of control technologies for buildings, homes, industry, space and aviation. The company employs 57,000 people in 95 countries, and had 1998 sales of $8.4 billion.
